And it ceased to be "hybrid."
Germany and Russia are effectively at war, said German businessman Stefan Tuman, who heads the defense company Donaustahl. He described Russian sabotage operations on German territory as actions coordinated by the Russian armed forces, according to Politico (translation by Charter97.org).
Thumann rejected the common definition of “hybrid war,” stating that the situation should be viewed in much harsher terms. “Germany and Russia are at war,” said the businessman.
The statement came as Berlin prepares to take a tougher stance toward Moscow. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, according to the publication’s sources, is preparing to hold Russia responsible for an alleged attempt at drone attack in Leipzig and to impose “large-scale” sanctions against Moscow.
Tuman reported that his company supplies strike drones to Ukraine. After German authorities uncovered an alleged Russian plot to assassinate the businessman in 2025, he has been living under round-the-clock security.
According to investigators, Russian intelligence agencies may have been planning to poison him. Shortly before Christmas, Tuman was warned of the threat, and an alleged accomplice was later detained.
The businessman explained that he had tried to identify potential agents using so-called “honey traps.” The spies were supposed to first determine his whereabouts, after which an attack could follow.
“I don’t see my family anymore,” Tuman said. He has also drawn up a will because he fears for his life.
