Germany Will Provide Ukraine With Additional Missiles And Thousands Of Drones

In response to the incident involving a Russian drone at Leipzig Airport, Germany is preparing new arms deliveries to Ukraine. In addition to imposing new anti-Russian sanctions, the German government will step up military aid to Kyiv as early as September.
Within the next month, Germany plans to transfer additional air defense missiles for the IRIS-T systems to Ukraine, as well as several thousand attack drones. This was reported by t-online, citing a source within the country’s government.
According to the insider, the drones are to be delivered to Kyiv “in the near future.” However, details regarding the specific types of UAVs remain unknown.
In addition to providing additional weaponry, the government intends to strengthen intelligence cooperation between the two countries in the wake of the incident at Leipzig Airport. Government officials stated that Chancellor Friedrich Merz played a key role in holding Russia accountable for the drone attack in Leipzig, as well as in determining further steps in response to the incident.
“In recent months, Ukraine has achieved significant military successes, largely thanks to German assistance. We must be prepared for further—including escalatory—hybrid attacks by Russia,” the statement said.

On September 1, Tagesschau reported that Russia was responsible for the attempted sabotage at Leipzig Airport on August 4. The investigation revealed that a drone, explosives, and detonation equipment—which had already been used in other Russian hybrid operations and in Russia’s war against Ukraine—were found at the crime scene.
Earlier, ABC News reported that the drone in Leipzig was linked to Russian military intelligence, specifically the GRU. It was noted that the drone was intended to disrupt arms deliveries to Ukraine.
In addition, Tagesschau reported that a third drone carrying explosives was discovered following the incident in Leipzig.
