Turkey Began Canceling Flights To Russia Following A Warning From Zelenskyy

The first flight to be canceled was the one from Bodrum to Moscow.

On the night of Wednesday, September 2, the Turkish airline Pegasus Airlines canceled a passenger flight from Bodrum, Turkey, to Moscow due to a "situation involving Russian airspace." This was reported by Dialog.UA reports, citing data from FlightAware and social media monitoring.

Pegasus Airlines flight RS1456 was scheduled to depart from Bodrum for Moscow at 12:05 a.m. on September 2. The plane was scheduled to land at Vnukovo at 04:25 Moscow time. However, the flight was canceled just before landing. Social media reports indicate that all Turkish airlines have canceled flights due to a “situation with Russian airspace.” This information has not yet been officially confirmed.

Pegasus Airlines has also not yet commented on the cancellation of the flight to Moscow. The next Pegasus Airlines flight from Bodrum to Moscow is scheduled for September 3. As of this writing, it has not yet been canceled.

As a reminder, on September 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in response to a new escalation by Moscow, announced the launch of a campaign to block Russian airspace. He warned airlines and “anyone who continues to use Russian airports” that “Russian airspace is becoming completely unsafe.” Ukraine took this step in response to the intensifying attacks by the Russian occupation forces on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure.
