Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin, explaining his strange remark regarding orcas hunting polar bears, stated that there are attempts to “devour” Russia, according to “Dialog.UA”.

On Tuesday, Pavel Zarubin, a journalist from the Kremlin press pool, asked Putin to explain his analogy. When asked who exactly he meant by “killer whales” and “bears,” the Kremlin leader replied that the comparison had arisen “entirely spontaneously.” Putin stated that if “killer whales” were meant to represent the collective West, it would be more accurate to call them “sharks of imperialism.”

At the same time, he said, they are trying to “drag Russia down the food chain” and “devour it.” “Russia is ready to do this, despite the rapidly growing appetites and teeth of these sharks,” Putin said.

It is interesting to note that both orcas and polar bears are classified in biology as apex predators—that is, they sit at the top of the food chains. Therefore, the analogy Putin chose effectively places the Russian Federation in the “predator” category itself, if one follows his logic.

Putin first spoke about this “food chain” on August 29 during a meeting with teachers and students. At that time, he claimed that orcas supposedly eat polar bears and suggested telling children about this so that they would understand “why we are conducting a special military operation.”
